The Parish Registers now at Upton only begin in 1762, but a
search in the Bishops Registry at Chester has furnished the
Transcripts for seventy-one earlier years. The first of these is for
the year 1600, and throughout the following century 31 transcripts
occur ; while fi-oni 1700 to 1762 there are transcripts for 40 years.

The existing Parish Registers previous to 1812 are contained
in one volume, on parchment, bound in undressed calf, the size of
the pages average 14 inches by 10, and the number of leaves is 23.

The editor's warm thanks are due to the Rev. E. D. Ward,
for all the kind help he has afforded in the work, as well as to
John Gamon Esq. the Diocesan Registrar for permission to copy
the Bishops Transcripts, and to Mr. W. H. Price (the Clerk at the
Registry) for his ever ready and courteous assistance.
